What to ask before
you choose a
wedding caterer.

A good first conversation should help you understand the people, the food, and what the event will need.

Begin with what matters to you.

Before comparing menus, write down a few priorities together. Is the meal a centerpiece of the day? Do you want a favorite food included? Are you planning around a family tradition or a particular venue? A short list of priorities makes the conversation more useful.

How will we create the menu?

Ask how your preferences become a proposal, what you can change, and how the final choices are confirmed. Share favorite foods, anything you want to avoid, and dietary requirements. You should understand whether you’re choosing a package or developing a menu around your event.

What service style fits our day?

Discuss how you want guests to experience the meal and how that fits the venue and schedule. Ask about the space, staffing, and practical needs of the proposed approach rather than choosing a style from a photograph alone.

What is included in the proposal?

Ask for a clear explanation of food, staffing, travel, rentals, setup, and any other charges that apply. Confirm what another vendor or the venue needs to provide. An appealing total means little if you’re comparing different inclusions.

What does the venue need to provide?

Share kitchen access, power, water, arrival arrangements, and restrictions you know about. Ask whether additional information or a visit would help. Confirm responsibilities with the venue so no one is relying on an assumption.

How will changes and guest numbers be handled?

Ask when the count is finalized, how menu changes are approved, and what booking and payment terms apply. Write down any deadlines. Knowing the process gives both the couple and family members a clearer plan.

What should happen next?

Leave the conversation knowing what you’ll receive, what decisions remain, and who to contact. If you’re still unsure about a detail, ask. Feeling comfortable communicating is part of choosing the right team.

Ready for the first conversation?

You don’t need every detail worked out. Tell us what you know, and we’ll take the conversation from there.
